People Thrive off Hope and Expectancy

Recently I’ve noticed changes in my moods based off my life circumstances and it’s made me think a little deeper into the source of my current happiness or peace. It made me examine the things I get excited over verses the things that tend to keep me feeling down or unmotivated and empty. As sad as it is, even christians have to make a daily realignment with where God should be placed in relation to other pleasures in this world, and often He does not get placed at the top, as christians know He should be. I believe fully that every human being has certain things that they may use to receive feelings that should come first and foremost from God, even christians are guilty of seeking out worldly methods in this regard. I’ll give some personal examples in a second, but I just want to disclose that just because we may use certain things for the wrong reasons, doesn’t always mean that the action or experience in itself is a sin or ungodly. The Lord blesses us with many pleasures in life created for us so long as we use them as intended by God. We can have many good blessings to make our walk on the earth more pleasant, and that’s because Christ loves us enough that he didn't chose to restrain us from everything in the earth that is enjoyable, because He loves His creation.

Back to the topic of this post, Humans Thrive off Hope and Expectancy, for me personally day to day if my eyes aren’t fixed fully on God my emotions go up and down so much and I can find things to try and temporary keep it steady, but it always fails. Often times when I feel down or lazy I turn to my phone for “inspiration”. This is an example of something that isn’t a sinful act but for me I already know that i’m not going to end up doing the things that i’m looking to motivate me, instead I'll likely end up spending so much times zoned out from reality looking and longing for other people’s lives or willpower, wishing I was able to get things done but yet giving zero effort to try. In the end I have another day wasted where I say I’ll use my phone to help me clean, organize my life, or reset and it rarely works for me in the way that I use it. In the moment it feels so good because I almost feel like I’m a part of whatever I might be watching or saving on pintrest etc. It’s like a fantasy dream world on my phone sometimes that gives me excitement for a short time and then it’s over so fast, so the options are to either stay on my phone and soak in more of others aesthetic lives presented on media, or get off phone and feel down about how much I need to do... or that’s at least how I often see it.

A couple more things that people use to bring fulfillment, is maybe they turn to food or struggle with emotional eating. I know personally sometimes I use food as my motivation to push through work or get up in the morning with a better attitude because I know that there’s something pleasing to taste waiting in the fridge. Again food isn’t bad and was given to us by God for sustainment and even pleasure but when it comes to the point where you’re in a bad mood unless you have some good food to look forward to, that’s when it’s not biblical, just as that goes for too much of any other material thing;

The same goes for shopping or impulse buying. When I purchase things online it makes me excited to open it in the mail, leading up to it arriving I can get so excited and feel happy but again that feeling can’t be used for full joy because it would lead me always wantung more and more and the cycle would never end. I know many people they do get caught up in the feel-good feelings that you get from shopping or clinging onto new things can become placed before your blessings extended by God. When those things get in the way, negative emotions can creep in, allowing the enemy to influence feelings or moods in ways that leave us empty, sad, and hopeless.

At the end of the day we all have voids and we all struggle with idolizing things before God and have to lay down our flesh on a daily basis. But this is all part of the goodness of God‘s grace! We have to understand that God does not place us on the earth with all these restrictions and rules to drain us and make us feel empty, He did the exact opposite. God knows that unless you place Him at the CENTER of your life you will not be complete or be able to experience His many blessings of peace, joy, and hope. He knows that we need these things in order to survive and He knows how detrimental it can be when we try our own methods to receive what He freely offers us, and he wants us to have the true source of peace and joy. He knows the depression and hopelessness of people and He wants to be that hope and joy in their lives. Never does he deprive us of pleasures, but the right intentions and uses of his blessings need to be kept because He knows how they can negatively affect our walk if we go our own ways. People need structure and something to cling to, for hope for their future. God wants to be that in your life first and foremost to glorify Him and fulfill His plan! You can be a christian and have a healthy balance of favorite foods, entertainment, clothes, hobbies, spouse, sports etc. and so long as Christ is the source of your joy and satisfaction, it will not leave you seeking for more and more of this world and feeling empty. God promises are never ending and never failing whereas nothing in this world is guaranteed to last, it’s all temporary.
